About DEFUSE

DEFUSE grew out of real-world experience working with youth, forensic populations, and safety-sensitive professionals and the clear need for effective, scalable evidence-informed de-escalation training across diverse settings. Developed and evaluated by Dr. Robyn Hacker as part of her doctoral research (Hacker & Horan, 2018), DEFUSE has evolved into a collaborative BHWP initiative.

Grounded in accessibility, learner engagement, and the best available evidence, DEFUSE is trauma-informed and built in partnership with members of the audience it serves. The asynchronous program integrates an understanding of the nervous system with practical opportunities to develop and practice de-escalation skills. Designed with both time and budget in mind, DEFUSE makes it possible for organizations to bring effective, evidence-informed de-escalation training to their entire team.

About BHWP

The Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP), part of the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine in Aurora, CO, is a multi-disciplinary center of excellence for training, research, public policy, and clinical practice.

Founded by Dr. Chad Morris to address the critical need for tobacco-free living and recovery supports among individuals with behavioral health conditions, BHWP has since grown to advance health and wellness across professions and life stages.
